Qicai Seed Industry in In-depth Participation: Shandong’s Key "Salmon Breeding & Cultivation" Project Launched to Build the Independent "Shandong Model" for Atlantic Salmon Germplasm
On December 10th, the launch meeting of the "Salmon Breeding and Cultivation" technology demonstration project, a key R&D initiative of Shandong Province undertaken by the Qingdao Maritime Silk Road Institute of Ocean University of China (Qingdao Blue Seed Industry Research Institute), was successfully held in Qingdao. As a core partner enterprise of the project, Qicai Seed Industry attended the meeting and witnessed the project launch together with leaders and experts from institutions including the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, Shinan District Government, Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Marine Development, and Ocean University of China.

This launch meeting brought together diverse forces from government departments, research institutions, universities and industry enterprises. At the meeting, Academician Bao Zhenmin, project leader and Dean of the Qingdao Maritime Silk Road Institute of Ocean University of China, delivered a welcome speech, systematically expounding the strategic significance and implementation plan of the project. Mr. Li Daqiang from the Major Special Projects Office of the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology put forward clear requirements for the project implementation, emphasizing the need to focus on breakthroughs in key technologies and the industrialization application. To ensure the high-quality advancement of the project, a consulting expert group composed of 9 renowned domestic experts in the fishery sector was established at the meeting. Academician Bao Zhenmin and Wang Baoli, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy District Mayor of Shinan District Government of Qingdao, jointly presented appointment letters to the attending experts, providing professional technical guidance for the project.

As a key partner of the project, Qicai Seed Industry has always adhered to the concept of "empowering fishery with technology to drive industrial upgrading", and deeply participates in the technological research and industrialization demonstration work across the entire "breeding-reproduction-cultivation" chain of the project. At the launch meeting, Mao Yunxiang, Executive Vice Dean of the Blue Seed Industry Research Institute and the project's administrative leader, signed the responsibility letters with the leaders of the four research tasks, marking the official entry of all project segments into the implementation phase. During the expert consultation session, Academician Bao Zhenmin introduced the overall project situation, while the leaders of each research task reported their implementation plans. Representatives from Qicai Seed Industry listened to the plans and participated in discussions together with other attendees. The participating experts conducted in-depth exchanges on key issues such as technical difficulties and industrialization paths, and put forward many constructive suggestions, pointing out the direction for the subsequent advancement of the project.

In September this year, the "Salmon Breeding and Cultivation" Technology Demonstration Project was approved and initiated by the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Led by the Qingdao Maritime Silk Road Institute of Ocean University of China, the project is jointly undertaken by Qingdao Qicai Seed Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Guoxin Industry & Ship (Qingdao) Marine Technology Co., Ltd., and Qingdao Marine Green Ecological Aquaculture Co., Ltd. Anchored in the core objective of achieving independent and controllable germplasm resources of Atlantic salmon, the project leverages an innovative model of "technological breakthrough + industrialization demonstration" to create the "Shandong Model" for Atlantic salmon breeding and cultivation. It will not only inject new-quality productive forces into the transformation and upgrading of Shandong’s modern fishery industry, but also drive China’s Atlantic salmon farming sector to break free from germplasm dependence and realize sustainable development.

Participation in this key R&D program of Shandong Province is a major initiative for Qicai Seed Industry to deepen industry-university-research collaboration and lay out core technologies in the marine fishery sector. Going forward, relying on its accumulated strengths in aquatic seed breeding, aquaculture, as well as equipment R&D and application, Qicai Seed Industry will work closely with all partner organizations, focus on breakthroughs in the project’s core technologies, fully promote the achievement transformation and large-scale application of Atlantic salmon breeding and cultivation technologies, and contribute corporate strengths to the high-quality development of China’s marine fishery industry.
