New Breakthrough in AI Breeding! Qicai Seed Industry Signs Cooperation Agreement for BlueOmniBreed to Jointly Build the Digital Infrastructure of Qingdao’s Blue Seed Industry

BlueOmniBreed1.0 is jointly developed by the Qingdao Blue Seed Industry Research Institute, the Key Laboratory of Marine Biological Genetics and Breeding of the Ministry of Education at Ocean University of China, and the Sanya Marine Research Institute of Ocean University of China. Centered on OmniG, a large pan-genetic pleiotropy biological model, the platform integrates multiple technologies including protein language models, multi-omics, biological evolution and statistical genetics, and builds a full-fledged integrated system encompassing gene function analysis, complex trait characterization and intelligent breeding decision-making.
Breaking through the technical bottlenecks of conventional aquatic breeding, the platform supports all types of cultured aquatic organisms including fish, shrimp, shellfish, sea cucumbers and algae. It enables precise analysis of dark genes and complex genetic traits in aquatic non-model organisms, delivers customized "intelligent breeding experts" for breeding enterprises, and addresses core technical hurdles constraining the development of China’s aquatic seed industry.

The launch conference featured an outstanding lineup of distinguished guests. In attendance were Academician Gui Jianfang of the CAS; Academicians Liu Shaojun, Chen Songlin, Zhao Shuhong and Bao Zhenmin of the CAE; Li Ming, Party Secretary of Ocean University of China; Meng Qingsheng, Party Secretary of Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Marine Development, as well as other leaders and specialists. Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Marine Development and Ocean University of China remarked that BlueOmniBreed is a core tangible achievement of Qingdao’s integrated "marine industry + AI" development and the construction of the "1+N+X" marine large artificial intelligence model system. Relevant parties will continue to coordinate resources to support iterative upgrades of the platform and connect the "last mile" between laboratory scientific research and industrial transformation.
At the conference, the organizers signed cooperation agreements with ten leading aquatic enterprises at a collective signing ceremony. As a representative local aquatic seed enterprise deeply rooted in Qingdao, Qingdao Qicai Seed Industry Co., Ltd. was invited to the event and successfully signed a strategic cooperation agreement. It has officially joined the industrial collaborative innovation matrix of BlueOmniBreed. By applying digital technologies to tackle key links throughout the whole chain of improved variety breeding, the enterprise will contribute local corporate strength to advancing the implementation of the national strategy for seed industry revitalization.
